Mickey Mouse is a beloved cartoon character representing the Disney brand and serving as its official mascot. Created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at Walt Disney Studios, Mickey is an anthropomorphic mouse known for his iconic red shorts, large yellow shoes, and white gloves. Over the decades, he has become one of the most instantly recognizable characters worldwide.
Mickey made his initial appearance in a test screening short titled “Plane Crazy,” but his official debut was in the groundbreaking 1928 sound cartoon “Steamboat Willie.” Throughout his career, Mickey has starred in over 130 films, including notable titles like “The Band Concert” (1935), “Brave Little Tailor” (1938), and “Fantasia” (1940). While he primarily appeared in short films, Mickey also featured in select feature-length productions.
Ten of Mickey’s cartoons received Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Short Film, with “Lend a Paw” winning the award in 1942. In recognition of his cultural significance, Mickey became the first cartoon character to earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1978.
